Average temperatures, rainfall, and water temperatures for our area do not vary too much throughout the year. However, you will see a big change with the water temperatures. Here is a breakdown of our weather by season:
Summer is the most popular time for beachgoers to visit Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa Island. This is when both our weather and the Gulf of Mexico are the warmest.
You can expect average high temperatures of 90 Degrees Fahrenheit and average low temperatures of 74 Degrees Fahrenheit.
Water temperatures remain in the 80s all summer long.
Things begin to cool down in the fall – something Florida locals and those looking for a cooler vacation look forward to. This is a favorite time for those looking for a more laid back vacation, weekend trip, or big fishing adventure.
The average high temperature is 74 Degrees Fahrenheit and the average low temperature is 55 Degrees Fahrenheit.
Water temperatures range between 84 Degrees Fahrenheit in September to 64 Degrees Fahrenheit in December.
The weather definitely cools down a bit during our “winter” in Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa Island. There will typically be a very brief dip in temperature during January, but afterwards it picks right back up.
The average high temperature is 63 Degrees Fahrenheit and the average low temperature is 55 Degrees Fahrenheit.

Our warmer weather makes a return in the spring. You will see a steady increase in both our water temperatures and air temperatures upon spring’s arrival.
