Destin-Fort Walton Beach is home to the most active artificial reef program in the country, with over 580 artificial reef sites.

These man-made reefs are constructed from a variety of materials–even historic decommissioned vessels–where they create essential habitats for marine life and offer incredible opportunities for diving, snorkeling and fishing.

Each artificial reef is carefully cleaned and inspected before being placed to ensure the safety of the wildlife and long-term sustainability. Once deployed, they become a thriving underwater ecosystem where you might find sea turtles, reef fish, small crabs, shrimp and more.
