"C.A.R.E."ing for Turtles

Interested in learning more about sea turtles and how to protect these endangered species?  Join us at the Gulfarium C.A.R.E. Center for an in-depth lesson on sea turtle rehabilitation and conservation!

Turtle Talk Flyer

Destin-Fort Walton Beach is partnering with the Gulfarium to spread awareness and educate the public about sea turtle conservation.

Sea turtles are vital to Destin-Fort Walton Beach's ecosystem. Visitors can learn how these species provide a cornerstone for everything that happens along the shoreline and emerald-green waters – and why protecting them is so important to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, FL.

The C.A.R.E. Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that acts as a beacon of coastal conservation through marine animal rescue and rehabilitation, encouraging awareness with public education and opportunities for active participation.

The talk kicks off with a tour of the Gulfarium C.A.R.E. Center, an inside look at their current sea turtle patients, and a mock in-take of an injured sea turtle. After that you will learn about sea turtle nesting on Okaloosa beaches and what you can do to help keep our sea turtles safe!

Some of the things you will learn during this presentation include:

  • The different species of sea turtles found in our waters
  • How they nest on our beaches
  • A behind the scenes look into the operations of the Gulfarium C.A.R.E. rehabilitation center and their current patients
  • How to perform a mock in-take of an injured turtle
  • The biggest threats to their populations
  • What you can do to help protect them during your stay
