Farmers Markets in Fort Walton Beach

Destin-Fort Walton Beach is known for its beautiful white-sand beaches and tranquil waters. Venture a few miles inland and you might find cows grazing in green pastures, fields of corn and u-pick strawberries. When it comes to fresh food, two major farmers markets in Fort Walton Beach offer a bounty to curious travelers that love to learn about new places through food ways.

The Downtown Fort Walton Beach Farmers Market is a year-round market that takes place on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Fort Walton Beach Landing plays host to farmers, artisan food vendors and crafters on the shores of Santa Rosa Sound.

Visiting the farmers market is a great way to support local growers and producers while discovering unique items. Pantry staples like local honey, fresh produce, grass fed and finished beef and organic eggs are frequent finds.

One-of-a-kind items make great souvenirs. Pick up jewelry, local artwork, handmade soap and homemade scented candles to remind you of your trip. If you can tear your gaze from the view of the bay and majestic oak trees, be on the lookout for fruit preserves and artisanal baked good―think breads, cinnamon rolls and pound cakes.

Remember to arrive early for the best produce selection. Farmers frequently sell out before the market closes! Visit the Downtown Fort Walton Beach Farmers Market on Facebook for updates and seasonal hours.

Okaloosa Farmers Market in Fort Walton Beach is a seasonal market open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Northwest Florida Fairgrounds.

A rainbow of vegetables are available in season, from sweet potatoes and squash, to blueberries and bell peppers. Vine ripe tomatoes smell like the sun. Eggs are from happy chickens. Local honey and live plants give a taste of wellness at home.

No two markets are the same, and you never know what kind of gems you will find. It’s a fun challenge to shop for local items seasonal produce and homemade bread–and come up with a fresh recipe in your own kitchen.

Modern farming practices and a mild climate make fresh local veggies available mostly year-round. But that wasn’t always the case. Born of necessity, the process of “putting up” vegetables for the winter has since become a novelty.

Destin-Fort Walton Beach is part of the South where we pickle or preserve just about anything you can imagine. Jams and preserves have long shelf lives, meaning jelly toast for breakfast until your heart’s content. Pickled veggies like okra and green beans make great additions to your Bloody Mary bar!
