Team Home Grown has been fishing the Gulf for 18+ years in their custom-built, state-of-the-art vessel. Captain Preston, a dad of two, started off his business with kayak fishing and now helps customers catch the biggest fish in the Gulf. His conservation-minded fishing style is perfect for teens who want to learn more about sustainability and his motto is “Service first, fishing second.”

I was kinda expecting just to catch some fish and then just come back with a fish picture… but I learned how to actually fish.

Captain Preston

What sets you apart from other captains?

I started my fishing business on a kayak which taught me to be hypersensitive to my surroundings. This makes me a better fisherman–I’m so glad I started out that way.

Why is it important for teens to experience Reel Time?

It's super important to just get away from the hustle and bustle. The Gulf is one of the only places where you can get away from it all. Just live in the moment with your family.

What should fishermen know about your boat?

We have great AC. Nobody gets hot on my boat, not even on the hottest days!

Tell us about your first mate.

Carter has been fishing his whole life and you can tell when he’s on deck. He’s super knowledgeable and professional–which puts everyone at ease.

Favorite sport (other than fishing):

College football (War Eagle!)

Carter, First Mate

Carter’s been on Team Home Grown for 4+ years, bringing his extensive first mate experience to every trip. For Carter it’s more than a job—it’s the dream he’s had since he was 8.

Charlie, Scout

Charlie grew up fishing and playing in the Gulf. He’s a high school football player and is passionate about teaching people about local ecosystems, especially the Gulf.
