The Great Scallop Search Choctawhatchee Bay

We need you, community scientists, to help us search for bay scallops in the Choctawhatchee Bay!

In collaboration with Florida Sea Grant and

Luther’s Pontoon Rentals, the Destin-Fort Walton

Beach Natural Resources team is holding The Great

Bay Scallop Search on Monday, August 17, 2026

in Choctawhatchee Bay.

Here is what you need to participate:

• Team of three people or more (each person on

your team will need to register separtely)

• Snorkel Gear: mask, fins, snorkel, and gloves

• Access to a vessel – Don’t have one?

We have limited options available on a

first-come, first-served basis.

We will provide survey data sheets and materials.

After check-in, teams will be assigned locations in

the bay to survey 50-meter transects in a specified

grid. All participants under the age of 18 must be

accompanied by a legal parent or guardian.
