The World’s Largest Artificial Reef coming to Destin-Fort Walton Beach!

Once deployed off the coast of Destin-Fort Walton Beach, at nearly 1,000-feet long, the SS United States will be the world’s largest artificial reef. She will create essential habitat for a diverse range of marine life, attracting divers and anglers from around the world, and resulting in an anticipated direct economic impact of more than $3 million per year.

The purchase of the SS United States will continue the growth of Destin-Fort Walton Beach’s robust artificial reef program, the most active program of its kind and one of the largest vessel artificial reef collections in the United States.

Okaloosa County, home to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, actively worked in close collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies to ensure this magnificent vessel was safely moved from Philadelphia, PA to Mobile, AL, where she is currently undergoing remediation prior to deployment.
