Memorial Day at Destin-Fort Walton Beach
Destin-Fort Walton Beach has plenty of ways to honor those who have served. Okaloosa County is the home to the largest Air Force Base in the country, and you will find plenty of venues to honor the men and women who have made us proud.
*Okaloosa County Women Veterans Monuments at Veterans Park
The 17.5 acre Veterans Park features 8 statues of women who have sacrificed for our country. The park was dedicated on November 11, 2021, and is a one-of-a-kind memorial that pays tribute to women who have served. The journey through the park allows visitors to take a step back in time to memorialize those who sacrificed. The memorial is ADA accessible, and there are plenty of stops along the journey to take a break. The park is located at 1300 Miracle Strip Parkway on Okaloosa Island.
*Air Force Armament Museum
Want to get up close to large military aircraft as we remember those who served? The Air Force Armament Museum has over 29 different aircraft, and visitors will notice the huge aircraft as they drive onto the grounds of the museum. Numerous planes from World War II, the Korean, Vietnam and Gulf War eras are on display. Once inside, you will find a variety of bombs, missiles, and rockets. Admission is free and all are welcome! The museum is located at 100 Museum Drive, Eglin AFB, FL 32542 and is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30A.M.-5:00 P.M.
Memorial weekend celebrations will be in full swing as well. HarborWalk Village in Destin and The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island will have events for the family to enjoy including music and fireworks.
