New reef in Destin-Fort Walton Beach

Destin-Fort Walton Beach has an extensive artificial reef program that provides excellent sites for fishing, diving, and snorkeling activities.  As part of Starborough Wine’s initiative to protect and restore the ocean, they kindly donated two “super reefs” to the Destin-Fort Walton Beach artificial reef program. They reefs were recently deployed about two-miles off the beach in shallower water. The reefs are prefabricated modules that are 16 food structures made of concrete and limestone. Destin-Fort Walton Beach will also deploy 25 prefabricated modules to the site that are 8 feet and provide for a complete reef area.

“This is just the latest partnership in our ongoing commitment to protect and restore our oceans,” said Courtney O’Brien, Senior Marketing Director at E. &. J. Gallo Winery. “Coral reefs are an incredibly important part of our ecosystem and we are honored to be partnering with Reefmaker to make a real impact.”

Thank you to Starborough Wine for donating these reef models to help grow the Destin-Fort Walton Beach artificial reef program! Coordinates for all the artificial reefs may be found here.
